Personal Development (PD)

PD Lead: Karen Richardson

Deputy PD Lead: Kim Chambers

The Personal Development Curriculum has been developed to meet the needs of our children, our local environment and the wider world, incorporating the six Rs (Readiness, Responsibility, Resilience, Reasoning, Resourcefulness and Reflection) and the Rights and Respecting Schools UNICEF articles.

The curriculum is split into six areas which are covered throughout the year. These areas are:

  • Rights and Responsibility
  • Money
  • Feelings and Friendship
  • Health
  • Identity
  • Safety and Risk

These areas cover the Manchester Healthy Schools objectives which are:

  • Drugs and Alcohol Education
  • Social and Emotional Health
  • Healthy Lifestyles
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Relationships and Education (RSE)
  • Unintentional Injury Prevention

Each year group, each half term, has an overarching question for the unit and a question for each lesson. Each lesson has a link to the medium-term planning toolkit. Lessons are taught for one hour and work is recorded at least once a fortnight. An opportunity for children to respond to lessons in a written way, ‘Ask it Basket’, should always be given.
