Governing Body

Our Governing Body exists to support and challenge the staff at the school and to ensure that our children get the outstanding education that they deserve. It is made up of parents, staff, members of the community and other co-opted Governors with expertise and experience in education or related fields. We meet twice a term as a full Governing Body. The Chair of the Governing Body is Shafali Kapoor.

ProfileRachel has worked in the charitable sector since 2008, across projects in the criminal justice system, education, and housing. She has a particular interest in the social model of disability and equality of opportunity. In her current job role she is a member of the Health and Safety Committee and is a stickler for detail and process. ProfileI graduated from the University of Manchester with an honours degree in Law.
 
I currently work at the University of Manchester as a Student Experience Administrator supporting undergraduate students throughout their degree programme.  I also work at Manchester United as an Area Manager.
 
I am passionate about improving the educational opportunities and attainment of children and young people.  I have gained experience in helping others to overcome perceived barriers to their learning and development through various roles including whilst volunteering as a classroom assistant at my local primary school, through the development of the 70+ staff I manage at Manchester United and through my work with students within the University.
 
In addition to the roles set out above, I have been fortunate enough to have been able to gain experience in various other sectors so far in my career, including providing legal advice to the public through the University’s Legal Advice Centre and volunteering with a charity that supports young people at immediate risk of homelessness.

ProfileAmy joined the Stanley Grove team as a class teacher in 2008 having studied at Warwick University. In 2012 she became Assistant Vice Principal with responsibilities for SEN, Inclusion and Safeguarding. Her personal interest and passion for Special Educational Needs led her to complete both a MA in Inclusion and the National Award for SENCOs through Manchester Metropolitan University.


Amy is proud to now be Principal at such a unique and inspiring academy. For Amy, Stanley Grove should be a school that is at the heart of the community, giving children rich new experiences and improving outcomes for pupils. She took pride in receiving the recent accreditation as a Gold Rights Respecting and Nurture UK School.

Samiya Butt

ProfileSamiya Butt is the Prevent & Community Cohesion Coordinator at Manchester City Council and has over 20 years’ experience in working in Local Government.  Samiya has extensive experience in managing the delivery of large scale projects, building partnerships and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.  Samiya has been in her current role for the last five years and at the heart of developing Manchester’s approach to delivering the Prevent strategy in the city.  This includes the co creation of a campaign designed with local communities to build community resilience called RADEQUAL and piloting new processes and support to safeguard those most vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism. 
 
Samiya’s skills and experience are key to building a better understanding about community cohesion in the city encouraging positive relationships between and within communities.  She has been part of the delivery of a number of programmes of work aimed at seeking a better understanding of community sentiment and the drivers that can lead to potential tensions along with tackling the multi-faceted cross –cutting approaches needed to address long standing socio economic factors.
 
Samiya has worked across Greater Manchester to develop tools and support for a range of partners aimed at establishing a better understand about the risks associated with terrorism, the delivery of the Prevent Duty and working with communities to rethink radicalisation and build community cohesion.
  

Jill Tordoff

ProfileJill has extensive educational experience and her particular expertise is in raising the aspirations, access and achievement of underachieving pupils who have barriers to their learning. Jill has had a wide range of roles as a teacher and leader in a range of schools and within Manchester local authority supporting school improvement. Currently Jill works as an independent education consultant.

ProfileI am a Manchester-based primary school teacher, having graduated from Newcastle University with an English Language and Literature degree (specialising in 20th Century literature and language acquisition). 
 
Before becoming a teacher, I worked in a range of roles from digital marketing to leading recruitment and marketing for a care company. I am passionate about education, and ensuring the best possible outcomes for the pupils I teach. 
 
I am proud to be a governor at Stanley Grove, because the school is at the heart of the local community, and ensures children are nurtured and supported to reach their full potential.

ProfileI graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in History and Politics prior to doing a law conversion course. I currently work for a law firm specialising in insurance. I have previously volunteered with the work the Princes Trust do within schools running workshops looking at raising attainment, and building confidence within groups of students. I have broader interests in education and the challenges faced when accessing education, especially for children with SEN and ensuring they achieve the best education possible.
