All of our Year 4 children attend swimming lessons at Manchester Aquatics Centre every Monday with school. Learning about water safety and knowing how to keep safe in water is a life skill, and as such is recognised and measured in the same ways as other key subjects. Please ensure all Year 4 children remember to bring in their Swim Kit every Monday.
The aims of the swimming lessons are:
*to ensure all Stanley Grove children (Year 4 and above) can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25metres.
*Use a range of strokes effectively
*Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

Mobility is high at Stanley Grove Academy in particular in Year 5/6. In the last two years there have been 32 new arrivals in Phase 3. A number of these pupils are new to the country and education system, meaning they have had no formal swimming lessons. At Stanley Grove Academy, we provide swimming lessons for all Year 4 pupils throughout the whole academic year. Due to the children starting at the school in the later years they have therefore not had any assessable swimming lessons.
