At Stanley Grove Primary Academy, we believe that schools are the beating heart of the community they serve. With this in mind we create a wide range of events to encourage parental, family and community participation.
Events for 2017-2018
‘Together’ Saturday 23rd September
A whole community event celebrating our school and its place within Longsight. It was an opportunity for past and present pupils, teachers and school workers to get together, celebrate and reconnect. One of the highlights was the creation of a timeline using materials and objects collected since our school opened in 1902
‘Bee Together’ Thursday 26th October
Open to the 10,000 people across Manchester who participated in our ‘Bee Manchester’ we designed and lead as part of the Big Draw 2017. The event was themed around bees with visitors enjoying bee friendly gardening, bee’s wax candle making, meeting bee keepers, scientists demonstrating how bees see, eating lots of toast and honey, guest from the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester Museum and the People’s History Museum, henna bee tattoos, an orchestra performing ‘Flight of the Bumble Bee’ and a beautiful piece of art created live by graffiti artist Qubek.
‘A Winter Welcoming’ Saturday 2nd December
On Saturday 2nd December we held a FROSTY community festival around Longsight, in conjunction with the Manchester Children’s Book Festival, designed to create some winter warmth for our lovely community. Lots of special guests helped to run the event, with Jack Frost themed activities arts, crafts, experiments, poetry and games. After the festival we hung our wish ribbons in the trees, and closed the day with a lantern parade, culminating with carols from our fantastic school choir, hot chocolate and the lighting of Longsight’s Christmas tree! Lots of fun was had by all! A massive thank you to all our wonderful creative crew and volunteers who help make these events possible, and ensuring our community is at the heart of everything we do at Stanley Grove.
