Last week we had a very busy week playing in two Hockey tournaments. The first tournament was held here at Stanley Grove. Two teams entered, Team A won all of their group matches and Team B won all but one. The standard of the players was very high and it was difficult to split the teams apart. Our two teams met each other in the Semi Finals, meaning that one team would have to knock out the other from the tournament. In the semi-final it was a very close game with Team A winning 2 – 1 against Team B. Both teams played extremely well with great sportsmanship and determination. Team A finished 1st and Team B finished 3rd, therefore Team A progressed through to the Citywide Finals.
The Citywide Finals were held on Thursday at Manchester High School for Girls, upon arriving at the tournament all the children were excited but also very nervous as the quality of hockey was very high. We won our first game 6-1 and drew our second game 2-2, meaning that we were through to the Quarter Finals against Manchester High School for Girls. They were a very tough team to play but we were into a good rhythm and we won 4-1, through to the semi-finals against St Chads. We continued to play very well and won 3-0 putting us through to the final. In the final we quickly scored 2 goals but then the other team also scored 2, the final whistle blew and we went to Golden Goal. St Anthony’s scored after a tough extra 10 minutes. We finished second and brought home silver medals back to school.
We are going through to represent Manchester at the Winter School Games on this 20th March… watch this space to find out how we do!
