At Stanley Grove we follow the EYFS Development Matters document which consists of 7 areas:
1) Communication and language
2) Personal, Social and Emotional Development
3) Physical development
6) Understanding the world
7) Expressive arts and design.
These areas are all underpinned by the Characteristics of Effective learning which are:
playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’
active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements;
creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.
This academic year we are part of the Early Adopters programme (please see letter in download section).
We believe that the specific areas of learning provide children with a broad curriculum and with opportunities to strengthen and apply the prime areas of learning. This is particularly important in developing language and extending vocabulary.
In Nursery we focus a great deal on developing strong foundations in the Prime areas so that as they grow older and move into the Reception year, there is a greater focus on teaching the essential skills and knowledge in the Specific areas of learning. We believe this will help our children prepare for Year 1
