Last week year 5/6 took part in the East and Central Kwik Cricket Tournament. There were 12 schools in total and competition was tough. The children and Mr Rizvi had been training hard for this tournament and all were focused and determined. In the first game the children played WHGS and started strong with a solid performance in fielding. The second game saw the children play Wilbraham the team that last year had knocked us out at the group stages, however, the team did not let this stand in their way and they narrowly won. The team were now full of confidence and in the last game they won by a massive 58 runs. This meant our school had finished top of their group. As only two teams could reach the citywide finals we were asked to play a semi-final game to see if we would qualify. The children were drawn against the winners of their group St. Francis and we knew we had a tough match ahead, unfortunately we didn’t start as well as we could in batting and therefore had a lot to do, however our fielding and bowling was superb and we narrowly won by 6 runs. We will now attend the citywide finals on the 9th June and hopefully come back with a medal. Well done Stanley Grove Academy a great result.
